Abstract
The thermal conductivity, heat capacity and heat release of vitreous silica and pure plastically deformed aluminium were investigated. The temperature dependence and absolute value of the lattice thermal conductivity of both materials are very similar. However, in contrast to vitreous silica neither long-time heat release nor additional contribution to the heat capacity ex pected for tunnelling systems was found for aluminium.
