Soluble and cross-linked poly(maleic anhydride-co-styrene) copolymers were
reacted with hydroxyl containing compounds such as salicylic acid, 2-phenyl
ethanol, eugenol and paracetamole in acetone or dioxane solution at 50-80
degreesC. The hydrolytic and controlled release behavior of the copolymers
containing these compounds in water was studied. The extent of hydrolysis w
as found to be affected by the type of polymer support as well as time, tem
perature and the type of supported compound.
