Avulsion of the tibial tuberosity with separation of the proximal tibial physis in seven dogs

Seven dogs developed avulsions of the tibial tuberosity apophysis in combin ation with a fracture of the proximal tibial physis. Six of them were small terrier breeds, treated by internal fixation using two Kirschner wires and a tension band in five cases, and crossed Kirschner wires alone in the oth er. The seventh case was managed conservatively. The tension band repair wa s simple, provided adequate fixation and avoided the placement of implants across the proximal tibial physis.
