57 patients were treated with dipyridamol (225 mg/day) alone and in combina
tion with aspirin (150 mg/ and 50 mg/day respectively) since the 15th day o
f stroke onset. 16 patients were enrolled as controls. Development of vascu
lar events and results of spontaneous and ADP induced aggregation rates wer
e assessed. We found that such therapy applied for six months could prevent
the development of myocardial infarction, ischemic stroke and other vascul
ar events whereas in 19% of patients who weren't treated recurrent ischemic
stroke occurred. It is shown that both monotherapy with dipyridamol and co
mbination therapy with dipyridamol+aspirin has stabilized aggregation withi
n normal parameters by the middle of the treatment course irrespectively of
platelet functional activity registered before treatment start.
