With improved acute care, a higher percentage of more severely injured faci
al burn patients are surviving their burns. When the full face needs resurf
acing, total facial resurfacing should ideally be done with a single sheet
of full-thickness skin. Unfortunately, this type of single sheet total faci
al resurfacing is rarely possible or practical in the case of acute extensi
ve burns. The nasoorbital region is a focal point of interpersonal communic
ation and needs special emphasis. This report presents two patients with de
ep facial bums whose midface regions were resurfaced with thick split-thick
ness skin graft as a single aesthetic unit. Since there is no skin graft ju
nction line on this region, a more homogeneous appearance and an aesthetica
lly superior result could be achieved. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd and IS
