The influence of slag, alpha- and gamma -Al2O3 in ceramic compositions on d
ensification, crystalline phases, microstructure, thermal, mechanical and e
lectrical properties was investigated. The degree of fineness of slag and t
ype of alumina phase played a role in microstructure developed that affecte
d on properties of the vitrified bodies. The bodies containing 20 mass % fi
ne slag (75,3 % < 30...2 <mu>m) with alpha -Al2O3 (alpha -AS(20) mix) showe
d a remarkable reduction of firing temperature with maximum MOR of 59,37 MP
a. The main phases recorded were anorthite, corundum, mullite with traces o
f cristobalite and quartz relics. The relevant of electroceramic bodies pro
duced exhibited high values for both thermal shock resistance and volume re
sistivity (3,6 x 10(12) to 0,58x10(13) Omega /mm) as well as reasonable die
lectric strength.
