Abstract
Optical amplification is demonstrated in waveguides of composite mater ials consisting of nanocrystals of Cr:forsterite or Cr:diopside embedd ed in a host polymer with a matching refractive index. Small-signal ga ins of 1 dB/cm at lambda = 1.23 mu m are reported. (C) 1997 Optical So ciety of America.
