Scattered geographically throughout Britain are 60 or more small private ev
angelical Christian schools. Following the rapid growth in the number of su
ch schools during the 1980s, it was predicted that the expansion would cont
inue into the 1990s and beyond. In practice, since the early 1990s there ha
s been stagnation or retrenchment. This paper explores some of the possible
reasons for this change in fortune.
