Abstract
Scattered geographically throughout Britain are 60 or more small private ev angelical Christian schools. Following the rapid growth in the number of su ch schools during the 1980s, it was predicted that the expansion would cont inue into the 1990s and beyond. In practice, since the early 1990s there ha s been stagnation or retrenchment. This paper explores some of the possible reasons for this change in fortune.
