The enigmatic machaeridians suffer from a confusing taxonomic situation cau
sed by lack of study and hence also understanding of the structure and arra
ngement of articulated specimens. Here, Lepidocoleus jamesi (Hall & Whitfie
ld, 1875), the type species of the genus Lepidocoleus Faber, 1886, is re-de
scribed and re-illustrated with emphasis on articulated specimens from the
Cincinnatian (Upper Ordovician) of Ohio State.
