Abstract
Myxobolus cerebralis, the causative agent of salmonid whirling disease , was first found in the United States in Pennsylvania in 1956, and ha s since spread to most regions of the country having self-sustaining t rout populations. By fall 1996, 21 states had reported the presence of M. cerebralis. How far the organism will spread is not known.
