Partial oxidation of 2-propanol has been carried out on AB(1-x)B'O-x(3) (A
= Ba, B = Pb, Ce; B' = Bi, Sb, Cu) type perovskite oxides. Acetone is the m
ajor product observed on all the catalysts. All the catalysts undergo parti
al reduction during the reaction depending upon the composition of the reac
tant, nature of the B site cation and the extent of substitution at B site.
The catalytic activity has been correlated with the reducibility of the pe
rovskite oxides as determined from Temperature Programmed Reduction (TPR) s
tudies.
