The substituted 1, 8-naphthyridines, 2-(2-hydroxy-5-methylphenyl)-1, 8-naph
thyridine [HMPN] and o-hydroxybenzaldehyde 3-phenyl-1, 8-naphthyridine-2-hy
drazone [HBPNh] react with acetates of Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) and Z
n(II) metal ions to yield complexes of definite composition. The complexes
have been characterized by elemental analyses, thermal, conductance, magnet
ic studies and IR, electronic, NMR and ESR spectral data. The HMPN and HBPN
h form the complexes of formula [M(HMPN)(2)(H2O)(2)] and [M(HBPNh)(2)] resp
ectively.
