This study examined effects of the maha mantra. The dependent variables inc
luded some mental health indicators, namely, verbal aggressiveness, spiritu
ality, life satisfaction, stress, depression, well-being, sattva, rajas, an
d tamas. Five subjects were measured during a one-week baseline and a four-
week intervention chanting phase. Results were in the direction predicted b
y Vedic theory. These findings suggest potential for the use of the maha ma
ntra in social work practice in areas such as stress reduction and treatmen
t for depression.
