One hundred and fifty wives of alcoholics were compared with an equal numbe
r of wives of non-alcoholics and matched on key socio-demographic variables
. Instruments to study the manifestation of Communication Apprehension and
their Marital Adjustment were administered. Data analysis revealed that wiv
es of alcoholics showed statistically significant greater Communication App
rehension towards their spouses and reported poor Marital Adjustment than t
he reference group. The therapeutic implications of these findings have bee
n discussed.
