Abstract
In this paper a variational inequality model is created for the elastoplast ic contact problem, in which the constraint of the constitutional relation for elastoplastic material and the contact condition are relaxed totally. I t gives an effective and strict mathematical modeling for the problem. The quadratic programming is used here for the numerical solution. This algorit hm has great advantages of convergence and computational effectiveness over the conventional methods, avoiding the tedious procedure of iterations. (C ) 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd.
