Abstract
A minimum of dietary fibre in the daily diet is recommended by any die titian. The DGE recommends at least 30 g per day for adults. Dietary f ibres are said to have many effects on the digestive tract and metabol ism. The term ''dietary fibre'' comprises extremely heterogeneous comp ounds of different physiological effects. Starting from definition, in gredients and properties of dietary fibre (part I), some physiological effects of dietary fibre in humans are discussed (part II).
