Ka. Feldman et al., A further investigation of major field and person-environment fit - Sociological versus psychological interpretations of Holland's theory, J HIGH EDUC, 72(6), 2001, pp. 670
Students whose dominant personality type was incongruent with the academic
environment in which they majored gained about equally in abilities and int
erests pertinent to that environment as did students whose dominant persona
lity type was congruent. Results are interpreted in terms of a socializatio
n dynamic being more prevalent than a personality dynamic. Comparisons are
made with an earlier, related study that presented ostensibly contradictory
results.
