Jp. Davim, A note on the determination of optimal cutting conditions for surface finish obtained in turning using design of experiments, J MATER PR, 116(2-3), 2001, pp. 305-308
This paper presents a study of the influence of cutting conditions on the s
urface finish obtained by turning. A plan of experiments, based on the tech
niques of Taguchi, was designed and executed on controlled machining with c
utting conditions prefixed in workpieces. Afterwards, the roughness was eva
luated on workpieces using two different profilometers. The objective was t
o establish a correlation between cutting velocity, feed and depth of cut w
ith the roughness evaluating parameters R-a and R-t, following the internat
ional norms. These correlations were obtained by multiple linear regression
. Finally, confirmation tests were performed to make a comparison between t
he results predicted from the mentioned correlations and the theoretical re
sults. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
