We theoretically investigate the origin of the resonant X-ray scattering (R
XS) signal near the Cc L-III absorption edge in the quadrupolar ordering ph
ase of CeB6, considering the intersite interaction between the Gamma (8) st
ates in the initial state. The anisotropic charge distribution of the 1f st
ates modulates the 5d states through the intra-atomic Coulomb interaction a
nd thereby generates a large RXS superlattice intensity. The temperature an
d magnetic field dependence indicates that the induced dipolar and octupola
r orders have little influence oil the RXS spectra, in good agreement with
the recent experimental results.
