An estimate of the distribution of suspended matter in the Barents Sea waters on the basis of the SeaWiFS satellite ocean color scanner

An algorithm for restoring the index of backscattering by suspended matter from the data of remote measurements of sea color is suggested. The measure ments of the brightness coefficient were made in the Barents Sea. The value s restored using this algorithm were compared with those obtained using oth er methods for restoring the index of backscattering. A relationship betwee n the index of backscattering and the concentration of suspended matter is obtained. The spatial distribution of suspended matter in the Barents Sea o btained from the data of the SeaWiFS ocean color scanner agree with the fie ld in situ data.
