It is demonstrated that the onset of shockwaves of "general position" accom
panying the one-dimensional motion of an isentropic gas of low viscosity is
described by Il'in's special solution of the Burgers equation. It is shown
that it describes the generation of shock wave in the one-dimensional Voig
