Comparative study of PP-MA and PP-GMA as compatibilizing agents on polypropylene/nylon 6 blends

Polypropylene (PP) functionalized with maleic anhydride (PP-MA) has been us ed as compatibilizer for PP/nylon blends. PP functionalized with glycidyl m ethacrylate (PP-GMA) should be a good alternative dud to the reactivity of the epoxy group with -NH2 and -COOH groups. Blends of PP/PP-MA/nylon 6 or P P-GMA/nylon 6 were prepared using 30% of nylon (Ny6). The effect of the com patibilizers was evaluated by DSC, SEM micrograph and by mechanical propert ies. The analysis indicated that PP modified with MA showed the best compat ibilizing effect in these systems. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd. All right s reserved.
