Abstract
We report a unique application of infrared microscopy in the determination of the composition of the two lobes of a bicomponent acrylic fiber. The met hod involved measurement of the infrared spectrum of each of the two lobes of the dumbbell shaped fiber separately, using an infrared microscope. From the spectral data the composition of each lobe was determined using a univ ersal equation developed by Pandey (Analyst 144 (1989) 231). The sample use d for the present study represents variation in terms of source and also th e batch of production. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
