Imaging of musculoskeletal infections

Musculoskeletal infections occur commonly in children and may involve the b ones, joints, supporting soft tissues, and muscle. History and physical exa mination guide the initial evaluation, which often includes laboratory stud ies and conventional radiographs. Additional imaging studies are often perf ormed to better define, detect, or diagnose the abnormality, assist with su rgical planning, and assess treatment response. This article reviews the ep idemiology, pathophysiology, and the clinical and imaging presentations of musculoskeletal infections in children.
