Orthopedic surgeons use radiographic techniques extensively in their manage
ment of children with musculoskeletal disorders. Within pediatric orthopedi
cs, the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal tumors, for example, use
the full extent of radiologic methods. In the evaluation and treatment of
scoliosis, advanced imaging is used sparingly. The changes seen on plain ra
diographs over time are central to making treatment decisions. Evaluation o
f pediatric musculoskeletal trauma patients relies predominantly on plain r
adiography although advanced imaging is valuable in complex injuries and ot
her organ systems.
