Magneto-optic traps which employ current windings to generate pulsed magnet
ic fields require rapid switch-off times for many applications. Practical d
ifficulties in attaining rapid switch-off of the magnetic field, including
the generation of induced currents, are addressed. Several methods for mini
mizing the switch-off time are presented which do not require complex feedb
ack mechanisms involving direct measurement of the magnetic field. (C) 2001
