The vapor composition, over iron-boron alloys and their thermodynamic prope
rties were studied in the temperature and composition ranges 1449-1752 K an
d 34.7-73.0 at. % B by Knudsen mass spectrometry. The mass spectra of satur
ated vapor over Fe-B alloys contained the Fe+ and B+ peaks, which was evide
nce of its simple composition. The experimental data were used to calculate
the thermodynamic functions of formation of iron, borides from gamma -Fe a
nd rhombohedral boron. The results were in close agreement with the literat
ure data.
