The general friction and wear performance of an iron particulate suspension
under boundary lubrication conditions are presented. The suspension is a m
ixture of 1-5 micrometer diameter carbonyl iron particles with commercial h
ydraulic oil, which resembles typical composition of magneto-rheological fl
uids. The investigation involves changing the particle concentration of the
suspension. The optimal concentration of the suspension from a tribologica
l view point can be observed from the experimental results, which provides a
reference to the design of the particle loading of magneto-rheological flu
ids.
