Abstract
The copper(II)-gadolinium(III) complex of a phenol-based side-off type di-n ucleating ligand was newly synthesized, using N, N'-dimethyl-N,N'-ethylene- di(5-bromo-3-formyl-2-hydroxybenzylamine). Structural analysis revealed tha t one of the two formyl groups is converted into a hemiacetal group and the two dinuclear CuGd units are bridged by the alcoholic oxygens of acetal gr oups of each unit to construct the tetranuclear (CuGd)(2) core.
