Abstract
An improved method for the synthesis of alcohols from amines was achieved u sing a degassed diethylene glycol and KOH. Utilizing this method, facile co nversion of a cyano group, even a sterically hindered one, to a hydroxy-met hyl group was also accomplished. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
