Fluorescence spectra and fluorescence quantum yield of aurintricarboxylic a
cid (ATA) were studied for the first time. It was found that ATA solutions
with pH 3 similar to 12 produced fluorescence when irradiated with ultravio
let rays. The maximum excitation wavelength and the maximum emission wavele
ngth are 297 nm and 409 run, respectively. An excellent linear relationship
between fluorescence intensity and ATA concentration was observed. The lin
ear range is 0.01 similar to 3 mug/mL, and the detection limit is 0.01 mug/
mL. Using quinine bisulphate as a reference, fluorescence quantum yield of
ATA was measured to be 0.16.
