The preparation method of alumina hollow fiber membrane by reaction bonding
of aluminum oxide (RBAO) technique combined with dry-wet spinning process
was introduced in this paper. The reaction behavior, phase transition and m
icrostructure of the membrane were investigated by different techniques, su
ch as thermogravimetric analysis, energy dispersive spectroscopy, X-ray dif
fraction, thermomechanical analysis and scanning electron microscopy. The s
tructure of alumina hollow fiber membrane is asymmetrical. The porosity and
mean pore size of the membrane are 50.1% and 0.88 mum respectively. The co
mpress strength and bending strength are 89.6 and 41.1 MPa respectively. It
was shown that the prepared membrane has high porosity, narrow pore size d
istribution and improved mechanical properties. The results of permeation t
est for H-2, N-2 and Ar exhibited that the membrane is free of defects or c
racks and has good permeability.
