Abstract
A 3-year study conducted on loamy-sand soil at Anand showed that sowing of pearlmillet [Pennisetum glaucum (L.) R. Br.emend. Stuntz] on 15 March by tr ansplanting gave significantly higher grain yield than that of crop sown on 15 February, but it remained at par with transplanting of crop on I March. Transplanting performed, better than drilling when the crop was sown durin g the first fortnight of March. However, transplanting was not advisable un der early-sown crop, i.e. sowing on 15 February. Delay in sowing reduced th e grain yield. The age of seedling had no significant influence on grain yi eld. Application of phosphorus was not found beneficial where the available P status of soil analyzing medium.
