Mono-substituted PPV derivatives were synthesized through the water-so
luble or the organic soluble precursor methods and their optical prope
rties were characterized. The EL devices were fabricated with mono-sub
stituted PPV derivatives as emitting polymers, and ITO and aluminum as
a positive and a negative electrode, respectively. Operating voltages
of these devices ranged from 10 to 20 V, and emitting peaks were at a
bout 540 - 590 nm depending on the polymers. Photoluminescence of mono
-substituted PPV derivatives were also studied.
