In this paper, the influence of the production conditions on the quality an
d mechanical behaviour of metallic glass ribbons will be presented, taking
two amorphous alloys, Ni81P19 and Fe64C21 B-11(15) as examples. These alloy
s have been chosen for the numerous results reported, for similar compositi
ons, in the literature as well as for the possibility to easily carry out n
eutron scattering experiments. All results, from neutron diffraction at sma
ll and large angles as well as tensile tests within the Weibull statistics
and scanning electron microscopy of the fracture surfaces, show that the be
st quality and mechanical properties are achieved after quench from an over
heated melt.
