Ch. Jiang et Js. Wu, Actual bearing stress of matrix in the Al18B4O33 fiber/6061Al composite under uniaxial tensile loading, MATER LETT, 51(3), 2001, pp. 262-265
Use of the X-ray diffraction technique to measure the bearing stress of the
matrix in the composite was established. The experimental results show tha
t the bearing stress ratio of the matrix is 0.715 and 0.537 of the total ap
plied stress for the 25 vol.% Al18B4O33 fiber/6061Al as-cast and as-extrude
d composite, respectively. Due to the aligned fibers, the as-extruded compo
site gives rise to greater mechanical strengthening. although the aspect ra
tio of the fiber in the as-extruded composite is lower than that in the as-
cast material. According to the shear-lag model, the bearing stress ratio o
f the matrix in the composite was analyzed. It was verified that. the theor
etical bearing stress ratio of the matrix in the composite is agreement wit
h the result from experiment. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights res
