Abstract
Switching characteristics of ferroelectric liquid crystals under horizontal electric field have been investigated. In order to stabilize a single doma in state, hybrid alignment was employed. In order to reduce a hysteresis in transmittance versus voltage characteristics, short-pitch ferroelectric li quid crystal materials were useful. Obtained contrast ratio was 10:1. Optic al response showed mono-stable behavior and transmittance rise and fall tim es were 220 and 150 mus, respectively.
