Abstract
The hypoglycaemic activity of Punica granatum Linn. (Family Punicaceae) see d extract on rats made diabetic by streptozotocin (STZ) was investigated. T he methanol extract of the seed at doses of 300 and 600 mg/kg, and chlorpro pamide 200 mg/kg was administered to STZ diabetic rats. The seed extract (1 50, 300 and 600 mg/kg, orally) caused a significant reduction of blood gluc ose levels in STZ induced diabetic rats by 47% and 52%, respectively, at th e end of 12 h.
