Abstract
The protective effect of Bacopa monniera on morphine induced liver antioxid ant levels was studied in rats. Oral administration of alcohol extracts of Bacopa monniera induced a significant hepatoprotective effect. In the morph ine treated group, a significant increase of lipid peroxidation and a signi ficant decrease in liver antioxidant enzyme levels were observed. Simultane ous administration of morphine and Bacopa extract prevented these alteratio ns. The results of this study showed that Bacopa monniera alcohol extract e xerted a hepatoprotective effect against morphine induced liver toxicity. C opyright (C) 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
