The processes of solid-phase deacetylation of chitin and preparation of chi
tosan-cellulose compositions were combined under conditions of shear deform
ation in the presence of a crosslinking agent, diglycidyl ether of oligo(et
hylene oxide). The resulting products were investigated by potentiometric t
itration, elemental analysis, and IR spectroscopy. It is established that t
he presence of cellulose in the reaction mixture favors an increase in both
the system homogeneity and the degree of chitin deacetylation.
