J. Vina et al., Decrease of mechanical properties of thermoplastic matrix composites afterimmersion in a hydrogen peroxide solution, REV METAL M, 37(2), 2001, pp. 361-364
The evolution of the mechanical properties, static and dynamic, of two diff
erent composites with thermoplastic matrix and glass-fi er fabric or carbon
-fiber fabric as reinforcement after immersing in a hydrogen peroxide solut
ion have been analyzed. The tensile strength Suffered a decrease after expo
sure of the materials in the solution. This decrease was more important in
the case of the glass-fiber composite than in carbon, fiber composite, On th
e other hand, the interlaminar shear strength suffered also an important de
crease, but in this case more substantial for the carbon-fiber composite, F
inally, the fatigue behavior of the materials have been studied after expos
ure to the hydrogen peroxide Solution. The results correlate with the tensi
le results.
