The high temperature P-31 NMR was measured up to 1300 degreesC in a superco
nducting magnet for the recently developed Mg2+ ion conductors of the Mg-0.
7(Zr0.85Nb0.15)(4)P6O24 solid solution, Mg1.4Zr4P6O24.4 + 0.4Zr(2)O(PO4)(2)
composite and Mg-1.1(Zr0.85Nb0.15)(4)P6O24 + 0.4Zr(2)O(PO4)(2) solid solut
ion composite. Line widths of all the samples decreased as the temperature
was raised and the longitudinal relaxation time T-1 showed a minimum near 1
000 degreesC. The observed T-1 minimum at high temperature can be well expl
ained by the local field fluctuation on the P-31 nucleus due to the fast ju
mp motion of Mg2+ ions. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
