Fwa. Verheugt, GP IIB/IIIA blockers with and without thrombolytic agent in prehospital treatment of acute myocardial infarction, THROMB RES, 103, 2001, pp. S113-S116
Glycoprotein IIB/IIIA receptor blockers given early to patients with ST seg
ment elevation acute coronary syndrome improves early coronary patency, bot
h in the absence and presence of thrombolytic therapy. Glycoprotein IIB/III
A receptor antagonists can be given prehospitally to patients eligible for
primary angioplasty and may enhance the efficacy in improving the outcome o
f patients undergoing primary angioplasty for acute myocardial infarction.
Glycoprotein IIB/IIIA receptor blockers used as adjunct to fibrinolytic the
rapy have promising angiographic results. Large trials evaluating the effic
acy and safety of these combinations compared to fibrinolytic therapy alone
are underway. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
