By using process simulation under realistic conditions in a pilot grinding
plant with a 0.725 m diameter x 2.5 m tube mill and scaling up the results
to cement grinding plants using semi-finish grinding technology it was prov
ed that electrical energy savings of up to 20% can be achieved by improving
the grinding ball charge grading and lowering the grinding ball filling ra
tios in the long 3.2 m diameter x 15 m open-circuit tube mills used for fin
ish grinding. A report is given of the measures carried out and the results
achieved both on pilot and industrial scales.
