Abstract
Volume holograms are theoretically treated as a photonic crystal. The band gap structures in volume holograms are calculated. The properties of volume holograms can be explained based on the structures of band gaps. Experimen tal verifications were implemented by using elementary reflection holograms . The analysis of the band gap for volume holograms is in good agreement wi th the experimental results.
