We have used chemical and x-ray analysis to study the stability and ph
ase composition of silicon nitride powders with different particle siz
e ranges and morphology in biochemical media (physiological solution,
gastric Juice, blood serum) at 37 degrees C. We have established the h
igh solubility of Si3N4 in physiological solution and blood serum. The
solubility increases with the dispersity of the powder in all the med
ia. We explain this behavior of silicon nitride in biochemical media u
sing modem theories of bioinorganic catalysis.
