The properties of hard alloys based on fine-grained hard-alloy mixture
s, obtained by coreduction of tungsten oxide with the oxides CoO and C
o3O4, are discussed. A linear relation is shown between the strength a
nd the abrasive resistance. the relative abrasive resistance increased
and the wear resistance under friction on steel decreased as the stre
ngth increased. Fine-grained mixtures obtained by coreduction and carb
idization of WO3 and Co3O4 and sintered at 1440-1450 degrees C were fo
und to have the best strength and abrasive resistance. Sintering after
homogenizing preannealing enhances the mechanical properties of hard
metals.
