Abstract
Glutathione transferase A4-4 (GST A4-4) is involved in the detoxication of lipid peroxidation products such as alkenals. The human enzyme has been het erologously expressed in Escherichia coli, but for more extensive character ization of the enzyme the expression level had to be elevated. A clone prov iding up to 8-fold higher yields was created, by screening an expression li brary with random silent mutations in the 5' region of the cDNA encoding GS T A4-4.
