Rp. Brun et al., PEROXISOME PROLIFERATOR-ACTIVATED RECEPTOR-GAMMA AND THE CONTROL OF ADIPOGENESIS, Current opinion in lipidology, 8(4), 1997, pp. 212-218
The adipose cell is now known to play a complex role in energy homeost
asis, storing energy and signaling to other tissues concerning the sta
te of energy balance, The past several years have seen an explosive in
crease in our knowledge of the transcriptional basis of adipocyte diff
erentiation. This review describes the role of peroxisome proliferator
-activated receptor gamma in this process, and describes how other tra
nscription factors may affect adipogenesis by modulating the amount or
activity of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma, Further
more, peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma and other adipo
genic transcription factors provide a focus for beginning to understan
d how various hormones and metabolites influence the development of th
is tissue in vivo.
