Abstract
The aggregation stability of silica hydrosol in the presence of polystyrene latex was studied. Electrolytes added to the system were demonstrated to p romote the heteroadagulation of silica particles on the surface of polystyr ene globules. Moreover, the aggregation stability of the mixed dispersion i ncreased in an acidic region (heteroadagulation stabilization), but decreas ed in an alkaline region. It was disclosed that the formation of heteroadag ulation complex particles in the acidic region did not decrease the sedimen tation stability of the mixed dispersion and was accompanied by a decrease in its optical density.
